Terms of Service
Last updated September 15, 2026
These terms are a draft under legal review and may change before our full launch. We'll post the updated version here and note the date above.
These terms are an agreement between you and Four Eyed Stallion LLC (“we” or “us”), which operates The Slush Piles at theslushpiles.com. By creating an account or using the site, you agree to these terms and to our privacy practices. If you don't agree, please don't use the site.
1. What The Slush Piles is
The Slush Piles is a place for independent authors to share their experiences with editors, designers, publishing services, and other providers they've hired. Reviews are the opinions of the people who write them, not of Four Eyed Stallion LLC. We don't endorse, recommend, or guarantee any provider, and we aren't a party to any agreement between authors and providers.
2. Your account
- You must be at least 18 years old to create an account.
- Give accurate account information and keep your email address current. You need to confirm your email before you can post.
- Keep your password private. You're responsible for activity on your account; tell us promptly if you think someone else has used it.
- One person, one account. Don't create accounts to post extra reviews, get around a suspension, or impersonate someone.
- A pen name is welcome as your public display name, as long as it isn't misleading or someone else's identity.
3. Writing reviews
Reviews are most useful when they're honest and specific. When you post a review, you confirm that:
- It's about your own experience as a client of that provider, and you actually hired or paid them.
- It's truthful. Statements of fact are accurate to the best of your knowledge, and opinions are presented as your opinions.
- You haven't been offered or given anything of value, such as payment, a discount, or free services, for writing it or for its rating. If you have a connection to the provider or a competitor (for example, you work for them, are related to them, or compete with them), don't review them.
- It doesn't include other people's private information, such as home addresses, phone numbers, financial details, or private messages shared without permission.
- It doesn't contain threats, harassment, hate speech, or discriminatory attacks, and it isn't spam or advertising.
- It doesn't infringe anyone's copyright or other rights.
You can edit your own reviews at any time. We keep earlier versions for moderation, and readers may see that a review was edited.
Proof of purchase
If you upload a receipt or invoice to verify a review, it must be genuine and relate to the service you reviewed. Cover card numbers, bank details, and home addresses before uploading. Only moderators see these files, and we delete them after a decision, as described on the Privacy page. Submitting altered or unrelated documents is grounds for removing your reviews and closing your account.
4. For service providers
- You may claim a listing only for a business you own or are authorized to represent. We may ask for evidence and may reject or remove a claim.
- A claimed listing lets you update contact details and post one public response to each review. Keep responses professional and don't disclose a client's private information.
- You can't edit, hide, remove, or pay to change reviews. Paid features we may offer in the future will never affect ratings, the order of reviews, or whether a review is shown.
- Don't post or solicit fake reviews, offer anything of value in exchange for reviews or particular ratings, or ask clients to review only if their experience was positive.
- Don't threaten or pressure reviewers, including with legal threats that have no reasonable basis, to change or remove a review.
5. Content you post
You keep ownership of what you write. By posting it, you give Four Eyed Stallion LLC a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, display, reproduce, format, and distribute it in connection with operating and promoting The Slush Piles, including showing excerpts in search results and on social media. This license continues for content that remains on the site after you close your account, as described on the Privacy page, and ends when the content is removed, except for copies kept in backups for a limited time or as required by law.
We may use anonymized, aggregated information from reviews, such as typical prices for a type of service, in reports and features. These never identify individual reviewers.
6. Moderation and disputes
- Anyone signed in can report a review they believe breaks these terms. Moderators review reports and may hide content that does.
- We don't remove reviews just because they're negative, and we don't accept payment to remove or change them.
- Providers who believe a reviewer was never a client, or that a review is false, can report it with supporting details. A moderator decides; in many cases the right outcome is a public response rather than removal.
- We don't edit what reviewers write. If a review includes something that breaks these terms, such as a phone number, we hide it and the reviewer can edit it and ask us to restore it.
- We may suspend or close accounts that repeatedly or seriously break these terms.
7. Things you may not do
- Use the site for anything unlawful, fraudulent, or deceptive.
- Scrape, copy, or collect content or account information by automated means, except as allowed by our robots.txt for search engines.
- Interfere with the site's security or operation, probe for vulnerabilities without permission, or try to access accounts or data that aren't yours.
- Send spam or use the site to advertise services outside a claimed listing.
8. Copyright complaints
If you believe content on The Slush Piles infringes your copyright, send a notice to the address below that identifies the work, the content on the site, your contact information, and a statement that you have a good-faith belief the use isn't authorized, along with your signature. We'll respond to valid notices and may remove the content and, for repeat infringers, close accounts.
9. Disclaimers
The Slush Piles and its content are provided “as is” and “as available.” Reviews reflect individual experiences and may be incomplete, out of date, or wrong. Do your own research before hiring anyone. To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement, and we don't guarantee the site will be uninterrupted or error-free.
10. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, Four Eyed Stallion LLC won't be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue, or data, arising from your use of the site, content posted by others, or dealings between authors and providers. Our total liability for any claim relating to the site is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim or $100. Some jurisdictions don't allow these limits, so they may not fully apply to you.
11. Indemnity
If you post content that breaks these terms or the law, and someone brings a claim against us because of it, you agree to cover the reasonable costs, including attorney's fees, that we incur as a result.
12. Closing your account
You can stop using The Slush Piles at any time and ask us to delete your account, as described on the Privacy page. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, or discontinue the site, with notice where practical. Sections 5 (for content that remains), 9, 10, 11, and 13 continue to apply after an account is closed.
13. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute relating to the site or these terms will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Guadalupe County, Texas, or the federal district that includes it, and you and we consent to those courts' jurisdiction. Nothing here limits rights you have under consumer protection laws that can't be waived.
14. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. We'll post the new version here with a new date, and for significant changes we'll give notice on the site or by email before they take effect. Continuing to use the site after changes take effect means you accept them.
