The Slush Piles is a place for independent authors to review the services they've hired, operated by Four Eyed Stallion LLC. This page explains what we collect, what other people can see, and the choices you have. We don't sell personal information and we don't show ads.

What we collect

Your account

When you sign up we store your email address, handle, display name, account type (author or provider), and an optional bio. Your password is stored only as a one-way hash, so we can't see it.

What you post

Reviews (including ratings, the price you paid, and the month the work was done), provider responses, company listings you add, listing claims, and reports you send to moderators.

Proof of purchase

If you choose to verify a review, you upload a receipt or invoice. It's stored privately and encrypted, seen only by moderators, and never shown to the provider or the public. We delete the file as soon as a moderator approves or rejects it, and in any case within 30 days. We keep a record that the review was verified.

Technical information

Like most websites, our hosting provider records basic request information such as IP address, browser type, and the page requested, to keep the site running and secure. Application logs are kept for 14 days.

What's public

• Your display name, handle, bio, and the reviews you publish are public, and may appear in search engines.
• Your email address is never shown publicly and is never shared with the providers you review.
• Moderators can see account email addresses and activity (such as when you last signed in and how many reviews you've posted) to verify claims, handle reports, prevent abuse, and help with account access.
• A pen name is welcome as your display name.

Cookies

We use one essential cookie, tsp_session, to keep you signed in. It lasts up to 30 days, can't be read by scripts on the page, and is removed when you sign out.

We also use Google Analytics, which sets its own cookies to count visits and understand how the site is used, such as sign-ups, reviews published, and searches (including the search text). Google processes this data under its own privacy policy. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we don't load Google Analytics at all. You can also use Google's opt-out browser add-on.

How we use information

• To run your account and publish what you post.
• To send account emails, such as confirming your address and resetting your password. These are sent through Amazon Web Services, and we don't send marketing email without asking.
• To moderate the site: checking listing claims, handling reports, and preventing fake reviews and abuse.
• To understand which features help authors, using aggregate analytics.
• To respond to legal requests when we're required to.

Where it's stored

Data is stored with Amazon Web Services in the United States and is encrypted at rest. Access is limited to the people who operate and moderate the site.

Your choices

• You can edit your display name and bio on your account page, and edit your own reviews at any time.
• You can ask us to delete your account. We'll delete your account details and, as you prefer, either remove your reviews or keep them with your name replaced by “Deleted account.”
• You can ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you.

Children

The Slush Piles isn't directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information.

Changes

If we change how we handle personal information, we'll update this page and the date at the top. For significant changes, we'll post a notice on the site.
